HAY TARPS:

Q.        What thickness or how heavy are your hay tarps?

A.        Bull Flex and Performer hay tarps are made from a 16 mil. material. A 25’x52’ Bull Flex tarp weights around 80 lbs.

Q.        Why are the hay tarps white on one side?

A.        Studies have shown that the white colored material reflects sunlight better than the silver and black. By turning the white side out the temperature under the tarp will stay at an ambient temperature. The silver raises the temperature about 10-15 degrees higher and the black can add as much as 40 degrees. The higher temperatures can cook the nutrients out of the hay. (http://ucanr.org/alf_symp/1997/97-57.pdf) It also draws out moisture and this can form on the inside of the tarp as condensation during freezing temperatures, potentially damaging your hay.

Q.        Where are the hay tarps made?

A.        Most of our Bull Flex tarps are manufactured off-shore and the rest are manufactured at our facility in Moses Lake, WA. Our tarp fabrics are tested for thickness, tensile strength, tear strength and Mullen burst to meet our strict quality standards to ensure our customers are receiving the best hay tarps in the industry.

Q.        How long will a hay tarp last?

A.        Many factors contribute to the longevity of any hay tarp. Type of material being covered, number of times the tarp is folded and unfolded, climate, method of storage, and the most important factor, keeping the tarp tight. But with careful management, our hay tarps will last 3-7 years.

Q.        Can the hay tarps be repaired?

A.        Yes, we sell 3” and 6” wide rolls of repair tape. Simply clean off any excess dirt from around the tear (a wet rag works best), let area dry and wipe again. Cut off the proper amount of repair tape needed, peel off the protective cover from the backside of the tape and apply it to both sides of the tear.

Q.        How can I tie down my hay tarp to keep it from blowing off?

A.        This is one of the unique features of our Bull Flex hay tarp. There are several opinions available and you can decide which one works best for you. For round bales, start by placing ropes on the ground and stacking your hay bales on these ropes. Each hay tarp has 12” triangles with a 2” webbing/loop sewn onto the end spaced every 3’ down both sides just above the pocket. In addition, a pocket is sewn down both sides. This pocket provides a place to insert sections of pipe or wood if you prefer to use this method. Using the pocket correctly provides the strongest tie down system. The ropes can be tied directly to the loops. We recommend using one of our round or square bale Super Cinch tie down kits. Each round bale kit contains 20-28’ lengths of high grade UV and rot resistant Black Max poly rope, 36 Super Cinches and 36-2’ sections of rope to attach the Super cinch to the tarp. Our square bale kit contains 40-18’ lengths of high grade UV and rot resistant Black Max poly rope, 40 Super Cinches, and 40 J-hooks.

Q.        Do your hay tarps have grommets/ why not?

A.        Grommets are a weak point in any tarp and can be pulled out relatively easily, decreasing the life of the tarp. Our triangle/loop style tarp is more than 300% stronger than a grommet style tarp.

Q.        How do you get the hay tarp on the stack?

A.        Our unique method of packaging allows for the hay tarp to be lifted to the top of the hay stack by sliding the straps around the hay tarp over the prong on your hay spear and lifting it to the crest of the hay stack.

 Q.       Why are the hay tarps packaged the way they are?

 A.       Bull Flex and Performer hay tarps come packaged with the end user in mind. Other hay tarps have to be unfolded on the ground and then pulled over the hay stack by hand. Something that is almost impossible for one person to do. Our tarps are fan folded from end to end and then folded halfway from each side. This design makes installation of our hay tarps a quick job for two persons. Simply place your hay tarp on the crest of the hay stack. After the ties are removed the hay tarp will unfold down each side of the stack. The end of the hay tarp in the middle is marked by a triangle with a short 2” strip of material sewn to the triangle. The fan folding allows the hay tarp to be easily unfolded. Pull out any slack and secure hay tarp with ropes.

 Q.       Why do your hay tarps cost more?

 A.       This is a common misconception about our Bull Flex hay tarps. When our hay tarps are compared to others by the square foot we are many times a better value. A competitors 25’x48’ hay tarp is 1200 sq. ft., and at a cost of $220  would cost $0.183/sq.ft. Compare that to our 25’x52’ Bull Flex hay tarp at 1300 sq. ft., even at a higher cost of $230 it would cost only $0.176/sq.ft.  The Bull Flex hay tarps unique design, silver/white color, multiple methods to tie down the hay tarp, added webbing sewn into each end to make the “chuck wagon” effect, 16 mil. material (one of the heaviest made), our standard 52’ length compared to the others 48’ length and a one year warranty against any manufactured defeat makes our Bull Flex hay tarp a GREAT value.

 Q.       Why is there webbing sewn into the ends of the hay tarps?

 A.       The webbing sewn into each end gives our tarps their distinct “chuck wagon” effect when pulled down over each end of the hay stack. This holds the ends securely down over the edge of the hay stack and keeps the ends of the hay tarp from flapping in the wind (a major cause of tarp failure). The webbing also allows for hay tarps to be overlapped onto one continues stack. Other hay tarps do not have any way of securing the ends on an overlap. When the webbing is pulled tight the ends are held securely preventing damage from blowing rain and wind.

 Q.       How many hay bales will a hay tarp cover?

 A.       A typical 52’ Bull Flex hay tarp will usually cover 72  4’ long hay bales, or 60  5’ long hay bales. This gives a foot or so for overlap on each end.

 Q.       Can you get different widths of hay tarps?

 A.       We can custom make any size hay tarp, but our standard widths are idea for most applications. Sizes range from 14’ to 45’ widths.

         POND LINERS:

 Q.       Do you provide installation of your pond liners?

 A.       No. We do not provide installation of any liners, however, we can generally refer you to a professional installer in your area.

 Q.       What is the biggest tarp I can order?

 A.       We can manufacture one piece tarps up to 7000 lbs, or up to 3 acres in size, depending on the material used.

 Q.       How do I know what thickness of material will best suit my needs?

  A.      For certain applications, the thickness requirements may be regulated by your local Health Department or Environmental Protection Agency so it is best to check with them first. If there are no restrictions, then our highly trained professional staff can help you determine which material will work best. Customer Service can be reached Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Pacific Time at 1-800-346-7744.
